Jakub joins the ranks of Chartered landscape architects
We’re incredibly proud to share the news that Jakub Nakielski has been awarded Chartered status by the Landscape Institute (CMLI).
Originally from Poland and a graduate of Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, this milestone is the culmination of years of dedicated practice, many late nights evenings, a rigorous period of mentored development and a demanding professional examination at the end of it all. It represents the highest level of accreditation for landscape professionals in the UK and recognition of Jakub’s expertise within the design community.
Jakub Nakielski, senior landscape architect, said:
“The Pathway to Chartership was a challenging process. Becoming a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute is one of the most rewarding milestones in my professional career to date.”
Beyond technical skill, Chartership carries an ethical promise. As a Chartered Landscape Architect, Jakub is bound by a strict professional code of practice that prioritises social equity and environmental stewardship. In the context of our modern climate challenges, this status highlights an ability to influence places which adopt blue-green infrastructure like natural urban drainage systems that prevent flooding or shaping schemes that meet BNG legislation and actively boost local biodiversity.
He’s especially interested in creating clear, practical landscape visions that balance placemaking and ecology within complex urban environments. An example of this is The Wheatridge special education needs school in Gloucestershire, which Jakub prepared the landscape concept for while working at another firm, taking the project through planning, and is now under construction.
At the heart of this project is a commitment to a safe, inclusive, and ecologically vibrant campus. The site layout resolves complex logistical challenges through a dedicated internal drop-off and pick-up arrangement, placing pupil safety above all else. To support the growth of students at an “all-through” school, the grounds are zoned into specialised “landscapes for learning” that balance social interaction with quieter zones. The biodiversity strategy anchors the school into the urban fabric, creating a sustainable legacy for the community.
We all know that Jakub’s career will continue down the path of leading ambitious projects that challenge how we think about the balance between the built environment and the natural world.
